The prime minister of India is the lead executive of the government of India and also the chief advisor of the president and head of the Council of Minister.

Prime minister can be a member of any house of Parliament of India, the Lok sabha and Rajya sabha.

Prime Minister is the senior-most person of cabinet in the executive. Prime Minister can select or remove any member of the cabinet allocates post to member.



Administrative and appointment powers

Prime Minister recommends the president for new appointments of following sectors
  1. Chief Election Commissioner of India (CEC)
  2. Comptroller and Auditor General of India 
  3. Chairperson and member of UPSC
  4. Chief Information Commissioner of India 
  5. Chairperson and member of the finance commission 
  6. Attorney General of India
And many other important appointments are suggested by the prime Minister.
